On a sunny Saturday in mid-November, we were honored to appear at the first ever “Neighborhood Dinner Co-Op Day,” an afternoon to celebrate dinner co-ops and spread the word about their benefits. Hosted by the Boise Co-Op, our favorite local natural foods and gourmet grocery, customers who are already in dinner co-ops were offered a store discount to reward them for participating in this earth-friendly, community building practice. For dinner co-op newcomers, we had the opportunity to play matchmaker right by the produce department. That’s right—about five paces from the fresh lemongrass and ginger, passers-by were encouraged to stop, fill out a Compatibility Survey, and place it in the store’s Community Binder. And guess what? They did! It will be interesting for them to stop back by the store in a few weeks to see if anyone who lives nearby is a compatible cook. Got a cool, innovative gourmet/natural foods store you love? Who knows—maybe it’s time for Neighborhood Dinner Co-Op Day in your neighborhood. Give us the heads up and we’ll try to make it happen.
